Review: Ironwood

Woodland Warfare: Reloaded, “Two Player Month” Starts and Ends Here

After playing shedloads of Anachrony on Board Game Arena, severely under-rating Septima, and having a wobbly old time with Cerebria: The Inside World… Shut Up & Sit Down is having a MIND CLASH once again! With Mindclash games. They published. This. Ok. Glad we understand.

Ironwood is a sharp and tense head-to-head battler set in a lovingly illustrated woodland – but does it hold up to scrutiny? Find out more in this video review…

Review: Compile

Tapping into our deeply and unashamedly adolescent image of what we think is aesthetically COOL, COMPILE is black and purple box of cyberpunk wonders took us by surprise and heck, we LIKED it. With one mini expansion already available and room for more, we think this is absolutely worth grabbing.

Podcast #261 – The Outer Space Special

We love the moon, as it was foretold, aeons ago

On this out-of-this-world episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down Podcast, Tom and Matt have played two incredibly spicy space games that have got them all excited. First up is SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence; a game of discovering aliens and working out ‘what their deal is’ that’s absolutely fascinating and packed with CGE’s specific, odd tendencies. Following that tall act is Sol: Last Days of a Star, a game that sits on the complete OTHER end of the spectrum. Pilot your ‘sundivers’ away from a dying star, as you desperately eke out turns before everything is gone forever? The perfect way to spend a Thursday evening.

Review: Courtisans

no, Not like that, don’t worry they’re just ‘people of the court’, sorry nan, I won’t bring the game to christmas again

Sometimes it’s really nice to chat about something that’s simple, that’s peppy, that’s just nice. Today on Shut Up & Sit Down, we’re chatting about a breezy game in a mildly loopy video; the tried and tested formula we all know and love. Let’s Courtisans, baby!

Review: Undaunted 2200: Callisto

Long-time followers will know we’ve got a soft spot for Undaunted games – and that’s why we couldn’t be more excited to explore this venture into new thematic territory. Swapping World War 2 for a capitalistic conflict in space (that as far as we’re aware hasn’t happened yet and therefore isn’t historically accurate) – we had a ton of fun really getting out teeth into Undaunted 2200: Callisto. We hope you enjoy the video!

Podcast #260 – Aesthetic Arguing

help, Tom is Rapidly Approaching Middle Age

On this… seedy… episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down Podcast, Tom and Emily are talking about two bucolic farm-em-ups in Windmill Valley and Harvest, as well as the utterly innocent Courtisans. Emily decided the theme on this one after the fact and I’m still reeling. Seedy? It’s a family show, come on now We also end up spending a weird amount of time getting into the particulars of how the two very pleasant and agricultural games listed are not entirely to each other’s aesthetic tastes. Strange!

Defenders of the Wild is Not What You’d Expect

Revolution is Tricky, This Game Is Too!

Weird video this week! Defenders of the Wild is a really solid co-operative game, but its compelling narrative implications are what makes it a cut above the rest. It’s time for a quick critical detour in this first foray into ‘reviews-that-aren’t’!

Podcast #258 – The Sandy Special

On this gritty episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down Podcast, Tom and Emily are chatting about a whole dune’s worth of sandy, sandy games! Well, two of them are sandy. The other two are just games. In fact one of the two sandy games is mostly water. Listen, it’s Friday afternoon and I’m ready to stop working and start playing Deadlock, which I am hopelessly addicted to. Truth be told, the new fortnightly podcast schedule only exists to fuel my addiction to losing roughly four games in a row every evening until the end of time. I will die ignorant, and I will die angry. You can’t stop me! YOU CAN’T STOP ME! This episode, we’re talking about Sand, Surf’s Up, Sumo, and Tokkuri Taking! Enjoy!

Review: The Vale of Eternity

Ahhh! Nothing beats the simple delights of a nippy card game that features DRAGONS and GOBLINS. The Vale of Eternity isn’t an all-timer, and it might not even sit in your collection forever – but it’s one of the most solidly entertaining games we’ve played in ages, a real crowd-pleaser; a fast and fun delight.
